ABOUT

Growing up in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Randy started his musical training early in his life. At the age of seven, he studied classical piano and began taking in the sounds of Mozart, Bach, Haydn, and Beethoven. His interest in guitar soon followed.

"My first exposure to the guitar was around the age of thirteen at a friends house. He had a Yamaha electric guitar and amplifier. I remember listening to the distorted guitar and thinking, 'I've got to have one. This is how I want to express myself.' I probably sat noodling around on the guitar for the next hour even though I knew nothing about playing it."

While taking lessons from a local guitar teacher, Randy gained experience throughout high school playing in various "garage" bands. At that same time, thanks to meeting Don Bailey, a professor at Westark Community College, he began songwriting. Professor Bailey introduced him to the art at a summer youth program held at the college.

Upon graduating high school, Randy continued his music education at Westark Community College where he again studied under Professor Bailey.

After two years at Westark, he transferred to the University of Arkansas to study jazz guitar and music composition under Dr. Jim Greeson. While in college he started teaching guitar, bass, and music theory privately. He now teaches full-time at Blue Moon Music.

In addition to teaching, he is also a guitarist/bassist for hire (including studio work), writes, arranges, and performs original material in Fayetteville and the surrounding area.

In March 2001, Randy wrote, played guitar and sang on his release "Treadin" with the Randy Soller Band. Currently, Randy continues to teach and perform as a solo act.
